Silicone Self Fusing Tape By Application Scenarios
Silicone self-vulcanizing tape is primarily made from cured silicone rubber, contains no harmful substances, emits no irritating odor during use, and is safe and reliable.
Silicone rubber self-fusing tape offers excellent waterproofing, high-temperature resistance, and good insulation properties, making it suitable for tasks such as protecting electrical cable connections.
Silicone self-fusing tape is not reusable. After wrapping, it vulcanizes and cross-links to form an integrated structure. If replacement is needed, the original tape must be completely removed before applying a new one.
First, completely close the water valve and wipe the pipe surface dry. Begin wrapping the tape 5 cm (2 inches) before the leak point. Pull the tape tightly to stretch it, and wrap it spirally past the leak, extending another 5 cm beyond the damaged area. Ensure each turn overlaps the previous one by 50% to 75% to create a high-pressure, permanent waterproof seal. Let it sit until fully cured

How Does Silicone Tape Work?
To use silicone self-fusing tape, apply moderate tension while wrapping it. This stretching action aligns the silicone rubber molecules in the direction of the stress, lowering interchain resistance and allowing the layers to interpenetrate via van der Waals forces. At room temperature, this fusion completes within 24 hours, turning the overlapping layers into a single, seamless, and waterproof insulation barrier.
For room-temperature curing formulations, we incorporate a cross-linker like a silane coupling agent. It reacts with atmospheric moisture through hydrolysis and condensation to create chemical bridges between the polymer chains. We also enhance specific formulations by adding tackifiers like polyborosiloxane or boric acid derivatives. During final curing, these additives bond with the silicone polymer to form strong B-O-Si links, creating a secondary cross-link network that significantly increases internal adhesion and long-term stability.

How to Use Silicone Tape for Electrical Insulation

- Preparation: Ensure the power is completely shut off before application. For new, unpowered lines, thoroughly clean the cable jacket and wire connectors to remove any grease, dirt, or cable-pulling lubricants.
- Starting Position: Anchor the tape on the solid cable insulation, approximately 2.5 cm (1 inch) away from the exposed wire splice or terminal connector.
- Repeat winding: Stretch the tape close to its maximum elongation while wrapping. Apply it using a continuous half-lap method. This high-tension wrap forces out all air pockets, creating a solid, void-free rubber sleeve that prevents electrical tracking and corona discharge.
- Insulation Finish: Continue wrapping in the same rotational direction to build up the required insulation thickness over the critical joint. At the end, forcefully snap the tape by hand, then press the tail firmly with your fingers and hold until self-fusion is complete before releasing.
Simply cut the cured rubber sleeve with a knife or blade and peel it off. Since it uses no chemical glue, it leaves 100% zero sticky residue on the surface.
