What Is Flashing Tape?
Flashing tape, also called waterproof tape or butyl waterproof membrane, is a flexible butyl rubber material used to seal and waterproof gaps in building structures such as roofs, doors, windows, decks, or chimneys.

Butyl flashing tape can adhere to brick surfaces, so it can also be used to repair wall leakage problems.
After ensuring the seam between the window frame and the wall is dry, dust-free, and oil-free, peel off the backing paper of the tape. Press the tape flat along the edge of the window frame onto the seam, then trim any excess. Finally, use a roller or scraper to thoroughly press from the inside out, expelling air to ensure the tape is completely sealed without bubbles.
The aluminum foil side of the flashing tape can be painted, but its butyl rubber sealing surface must not be coated.
