Step 1: Pre-Construction Preparation

- Thorough Cleaning: First, use a broom and a vacuum cleaner to thoroughly clean the dust on the floor. Remove all sand, construction waste, and loose debris.
- Create a Slope on the Cement Floor (Critical Step): If it is a newly made cement floor, you must create a proper slope so that the floor naturally slopes toward the drain. If no slope is made, water will accumulate under the tiles for a long time, leading to mold and foul odors later on.
- Targeted Treatment for Wall Substrates:
- Drywall Surface: It is recommended to wipe the wall with a slightly damp cloth before installation. This prevents dry drywall from absorbing moisture from the mortar too quickly, ensuring the waterproof membrane bonds more securely. If the surrounding walls are all drywall, then a waterproof membrane must be applied to all wall surfaces to avoid damage from moisture later on.
- Concrete Walls and Floors: Ensure the surface is flat, solid, and fully cured. Repair any visible cracks and thoroughly clean off surface oil stains.
Step 2: Seal Corners and Pipes with TPE Components

- Applying Bonding Mortar:

Using a notched trowel, evenly apply the mixed modified thin-set mortar onto the wall or floor, creating parallel and uniform ridges.
- Press and Paste from Bottom to Top: Apply the membrane to the wall. It is highly recommended to press it firmly from bottom to top and from the inside out using a flat trowel or a rubber roller. This step must completely force out the air and excess mortar inside, ensuring a 100% tight mechanical bond between the fleece layer of the membrane and the mortar.
- Standard Seam Overlap: When splicing two adjacent waterproof membranes, a minimum overlap of 5 to 10 cm must be maintained. Apply mortar and press firmly at the overlap as well to achieve a continuous, seamless barrier that completely blocks water.
Step 4: Flood Test
Once installation is complete, wait patiently for the cement mortar and waterproof layer to fully cure. Then, plug the drain and fill the floor with a few centimeters of water, letting it sit for 24 hours. If the water level does not drop and there are no signs of leakage in adjacent rooms or the ceiling below, congratulations, your waterproofing is a complete success! You can now safely begin tiling.
